Choir Director Search - Job Description and Candidate Information

All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation is a liberal religious congregation that nurtures
lifelong spiritual development. We covenant to create a welcoming, caring,
justice-seeking community within and beyond these walls.

All Souls Unitarian Universalist Congregation is located in southeastern Connecticut in New London.  The congregation numbers 250 adult members.  One hundred children and youth are active in the religious education program. 
 

Job Description:   Choir Director, 10 hours/week beginning July 1, 2018

Objective:  To rehearse and direct the All Souls Adult Choir in Sunday morning and special services, sharing music that complements the monthly ministry themes and is uplifting and meaningful to the congregation. 

 

Essential Responsibilities - with the support of the Music Leadership:

INSPIRE JOYFUL MUSIC MINISTRY THROUGH THE CHOIR & CONGREGATIONAL SINGING

  1. Lead weekly choir rehearsal   (Currently Wednesday 7:15 – 8:45 p.m.)
  2. Conduct choir 2 Sundays / month  
  3. Lead congregational singing during services 
  4. Nurture and support volunteers (recognition, consistent contact, & feedback)
  5. Participate in annual music programming that involves the choir:  Solstice, Music Night, Caroling Party, pastoral choir visits to homebound congregants
  6. Demonstrate fluency in a wide variety of musical genres and World Music
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned

     

    ADMINISTER THE PROGRAM

  1. Identify music based on monthly ministry themes & in collaboration with the Senior Minister
  2. Purchase music in a timely fashion
  3. Monitor budget and oversee expenditures

     

    PUBLICIZE & COMMUNICATE

  1. Consistent communication with the Minister including monthly Staff Meeting & weekly phone meetings
  2. Consistent communication with Music Committee Chair including monthly meeting
  3. Promote and generate enthusiasm for the choir and music ministry through a monthly newsletter column

     

    PERSONAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS - must be able to:

  1. Listen well and communicate effectively by both oral and written means
  2. Motivate, support, and inspire volunteers
  3. Delegate and be an effective team worker
  4. Work effectively and compassionately with singers of varying levels of skill 
  5. Uphold UU principles in all aspects of the program
